munchwise ("we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and authentication credentials through our authentication provider (Clerk).
Profile Information: Age, height, weight, gender, fitness goals, and activity level that you voluntarily provide to personalize your experience.
Health & Fitness Data:
- Nutrition data: Food logs, calorie intake, macro nutrient breakdowns, and meal photos you submit for AI analysis.
- Sleep data: Sleep duration, quality, bedtime, wake time, and sleep factors you log or sync from Apple Health / Health Connect.
- Activity data: Step counts and calories burned synced from Apple Health (iOS) or Health Connect (Android).
Device Information: Device type, operating system version, and app version for crash reporting and performance monitoring.
Camera & Microphone: We access your camera to photograph meals and your microphone to record food descriptions for AI nutrition analysis. These are only accessed when you actively use these features and with your explicit permission.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Provide personalized nutrition tracking, sleep analysis, and fitness insights
- Calculate BMI, daily calorie goals, and macro nutrient targets
- Generate AI-powered nutrition analysis from food photos and voice descriptions
- Provide AI-powered sleep insights and recommendations
- Send notifications for meal reminders, sleep schedules, and goal achievements
- Monitor app stability and fix crashes via Sentry (anonymized crash reports)
3. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely on our servers. Sensitive authentication tokens are stored using your device's secure storage (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore). We use HTTPS encryption for all data transmission between the app and our servers.
4. Third-Party Services
- Clerk: Authentication and user management.
- Sentry: Crash reporting and error monitoring (anonymized).
- Apple Health / Health Connect: We read and write health data only with your explicit permission. This data stays on your device unless you choose to sync it.
- Expo: Push notification delivery.
5. Health Data
We treat all health and fitness data with the highest level of care:
- Health data is never sold to third parties
- Health data is never used for advertising
- Health data is only shared with third parties as necessary to provide the service (e.g., AI analysis)
- You can delete your health data at any time from within the app
6. Your Rights
- Access: You can view all your data within the app at any time.
- Correction: You can update your profile and health data entries.
- Deletion: You can request deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us.
- Portability: You can export your data upon request.
7. Children's Privacy
Our app is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy within the app and updating the effective date.
